BODY SESSIONS is an initiative providing embodied/movement classes for the community of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie & Sandberg Instituut. We believe that practices that centre moving/feeling can provide invaluable tools for artists and students that work with their bodies, as well as those working in completely other fields, and that higher education reasonably should not address individuals only from the neck up.

About the upcoming session:
Keren’s practice is based in the movement method gaga. Gaga is a new way of gaining knowledge and self-awareness through your body. Gaga provides a framework for discovering and strengthening your body and adding flexibility, stamina, and agility while lightening the senses and imagination. Gaga raises awareness of physical weaknesses, awakens numb areas, exposes physical fixations, and offers ways for their elimination.
Keren will present the practice that she developed for herself, as a continuation of gaga: Body-House. Body-House is a training method that approaches the physical body as a lived in entity of the self and as a vessel that carries energy and vibrations. This method is working with the human body as a form of a house, where skin functions as a two way wall, mediating between the inside and the outside spaces. Body-House explores the dialogue between the energy that we hold under the skin and how we share it on the outside, focusing on mapping the energy that is traveling within the flesh and through the skin of the body.
Keren Rosenberg is an Amsterdam based Israeli performer, choreographer and movement researcher. Through her works and artistic practice, she seeks to articulate a physical and social political gaze over the body and the environment it functions in; hunting for rituals and physicality that can dissolve boundaries between body, social skins and environments.
