BODY SESSIONS is an initiative providing embodied/movement classes for the community of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie & Sandberg Instituut. We believe that practices that centre moving/feeling can provide invaluable tools for artists and students that work with their bodies, as well as those working in completely other fields, and that higher education reasonably should not address individuals only from the neck up.

About the upcoming session:
Physical research practice with theatre maker Sarah Huygens - What happens when the energy between bodies comes together and creates its own dimension, energy and story?
Sarah Huygens is a young Flemish theater and dance maker with West African roots, who explores the boundaries of herself and her collaborators in interdisciplinary movement and dance theater. With a fascination for the moving body, Sarah creates performances that are close to the skin, raw and dramatic. Personal stories from often multicultural actors and dancers form the basis from which Sarah makes her work. This creates a thin line between reality and theater, with Sarah concentrating on the themes of identity and gender. With a mix of movement, text and visual language, the viewer is confronted with the personal stories of the actors, which can lead to both recognition and discomfort.
