Hello witches and welcome to COVEN, a rietveld-sandberg student-run research group focused on dismantling power structures through the embodied practice of intersectional feminism and the recuperation of our connection to the natural world.
This is a space to explore an alternative society: a society that is not based on exploitative labour practices, gender or racial hierarchies and focuses on the recuperation of our relationship with the natural world and the multitudes of human and non-human beings inhabiting the world.
Radical care is our approach. We read, discuss, cook, gossip, explore non institutional care and healing practices and above all aim to create a community of support and knowledge sharing.

Welcome to another season of the COVEN, a student-run research group initiated in 2021 focusing on dismantling power structures through intersectional feminism and the connection between human nature and technology. Since last year, the group has been facilitating weekly encounters around various topics such as marginalized bodies, feminist heritage or health and care practices through both embodied & academic resources with regular discussions based on member's personal experiences and knowledge.

"This workshop will cover the practice of soap making as an anthropological tool as well as a care practice and how to bridge traditional crafts and contemporary art. Jip van Steenis is a soap maker, artist and anthropologist. She makes soaps in her attic in Amsterdam in small batches, not more than a kilo or two at once. They’re handmade with natural ingredients only, plant-based, mostly organic, via the artisanal cold-pressed method which she started practising during the momentum of Covid-19. This method is practiced already for thousands of years and due to industrialisation processes most people lost the knowledge of how to make soap at home. Homemade soap is far gentler and caring for the skin and environment than factory-made-soap, and there is lots of fun in the practice of brewing and picking soft, lathering and sweet-smelling ingredients that fit all types of bathing occasions; uplifting or calming, scrubbing or smoothing.”
