Rietveld Uncut is one of the three annual presentation moments of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie since 2009. Within Rietveld Uncut, the process of creating work, contact with the public outside the academy and the relationship to Studium Generale's subjects that change every year play a substantive role. Departments and individual students develop projects in relation to the theoretical frameworks of Studium Generale. Since 2014 leads this collaboration to a simultaneous conference week and exhibition, where making and thinking come together.
In collaboration with the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Gerrit Rietveld Academie presents Refuge – fleeing, flowing, leaking. This is a large-scale, multi-day event in the museum building and includes a festive Friday night. From 22 to 25 March 2023, it focuses on questions of refuge.
For an upcoming performance at the Stedelijk museum this Rietveld student is seeking 40 performers who would commit to the act of carrying.
After two online editions of Rietveld Uncut, the exhibition is taking place IRL again in Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam from March 23-26.
(exhibition online from March 24 onwards)

We are very happy to announce the open-call for Rietveld Uncut 2021. As in previous years we will collaborate with Studium Generale and Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
Bachelor students of specialization years are invited to propose a project that relates to the current topic of Studium Generale: 'Resilient Bodies - Strategies and Practices for Fluid Embodiments'. Please note that Basic Year can not apply.
Rietveld Uncut 2021 will be adapted to Covid-19 restrictions and therefore take a hybrid shape. Detailed information can be found here.
Instead of introducing Uncut during Studium Generale live in the Gym, we’ve made a video that explains the projects ins and outs. If you consider applying we recommend you to watch it here.
- Rietveld Uncut takes place from March 24-27, 2021
- The main presentation platform for projects will be online, on a section of the Resilient Bodies website (soon to be launched).
- A selection of physical excerpts and spinoffs connected to the online presentations can still be presented at Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
- In the Stedelijk Museum Shop there will also be space for a few artist publications
