As part of the Quality Agreements 2019-2024, the Gerrit Rietveld Academie will focus in the coming years on strengthening the position of the individual student in his/her/them personal well-being and resilience as a basic condition for studying. To shape this Quality Agreement, a Student Support working group (including lecturers, students, counselor, representatives of Student Council and Unsettling) was launched in September 2019. Together we work on an action plan for the coming years.
The outbreak of Covid-19 and all measures that have been put in motion are generating a new dynamic, as well as a new support demand. The Student Support working group has adapted its original plan to provide additional support in the coming period in the form of the following projects:
Are you coming from the biggest part of the world? For all Sandberg and Rietveld students coming from outside Europe
Do you like PHILOsophy? Do you like CAFÉ or tea? Then we have some great news for you!
Monday Movie Madness, a way to end the first the week after the weekenders, is a monthly movie program for students by students. Feature films, work from students and alumni will be screened via selection and open call.

The Group Crit is inter-departmental critic sessions in which a maximum of 3 students would have a maximum 1 hour for a feedback/crit session, lead by the participating students. Coordinator student support will be present during the session as an invisible guide. The whole group will stay under a total of 12 students, either from Rietveld or Sandberg. The crit host starts the day with introducing three students who are going to present their works, continued by their presentation and a discussion.
An online ‘living-room’ looking to fuse the physical space with the remote, for the student community, created by Angelo Custodio and Pedro Matias. The livingROOM is a third space for and with students to exchange and inhabit remotely, simultaneously or asynchronously; a shared electronic social space, that allows remote participants to engage in social relations with one another at a distance. The livingROOM takes place on June 12 and July 3 and is open to all students of the Rietveld Academie and Sandberg Instituut.

Tomislav Feller (CRO) is a choreographer and performer based in Amsterdam. He graduated from the School for New Dance Develop- ment (SNDO) in 2010, and since then has been making collaborative and solo projects, giving workshops, and exploring states of body through movement. Tomislav works between Amsterdam and Zagreb. Together with Manuel Scheiwiller he created Contemporary Cruising, a curatorial/choreographic duo that explores the notion of spectacle and the “perfect body” in contemporary performance. The project includes an online magazine and performances, thus far presented at festivals “Les Urbaines” in Lausanne, Platforma festival in Zagreb, Porny Days in Zurich, Kunsthale Vienna and Oceans breathe salty in New York. Tomislav also collaborates with Hana van der Kolk on an ongoing research and performance project focused on the politics and aesthetics of stillness, waiting, nothingness, and collective encounter. Their work has been presented at PAM and Anatomy Riot in Los Angeles, and at Jacuzzi in Amsterdam. Tomislav has performed for many influential international artists such as Steve Paxton, Deborah Hay, Tino Sehgal, Ame Henderson, Jeanine Darning and Matija Ferlin. He is one of the co-founder of the artist run space for dance and performance “Jacuzzi” in Amsterdam.
This 90 min movement class is intended for anyone that wants to let go into the pleasure of moving, sweating and shaping the collective energy of the shared space. During the class we will be experiencing how it is to move with the eyes closed while being supported by the observer. There will be time to explore certain improvisational prompts and choreographic tools as much as learning some repetitive moves and executing it together filled by some groovy pop soundtrack. The aim of the class is to make everyone feel comfortable in this shared space of movement exploration. Perhaps also to find some new connections in the body and improve strength, flexibility and one’s awareness in space.
