The act of writing, of framing thoughts and ideas within language, is integral to the creative practice. It is one thing to have an idea, it is another thing to say it, let alone write it.
In this light, we’re organising a series of student gatherings, workshops and lectures where students from all corners of the Rietveld & Sandberg community can meet and investigate different approaches to the use of text (in their practice).
The goal of this platform is to articulate the voice of the artist/designer through a communal practice and space. We aim to open up the often insular practice of working with text; to share with others and cultivate a space for collectivity and feedback. A body of many different voices germinating in discourse.

as you may or may not know we are running the WRITING CLASSES, one of three new intercurricular programmes. we are isabel, jimena, loïc and shifra and we will be your hosts, facilitators and collaborators for this coming period of reading and/or writing and/or sharing and/or thinking and/or talking and/or crying.

Writing class with Giulia Damiani
For this three-day workshop we will look at the overlaps of writing and voicing through various media. Through exercises, reading and materials we will think with the following questions: how can a sensuous approach to language, on and off the page, trigger insightful revelations on the writing process? Can such writing process help unfolding larger artistic productions?
During the first day Giulia will introduce her work with the feminist group Le Nemesiache and her collaborations with artists, which bring together practices of myth-making, magic, landscape and the language of evocation and invocation. Over the three days the participants will be invited to think with their own relationship to text through exercises and references which will suggest different points of entry on performative writing. Performative writing has been defined as shedding light onto invisible aspects of the world through a multidimensional approach to language. Further wider questions will float in this space: can a multi-sensorial encounter with the world be framed by writing? Does the evocative potential of writing contribute to the telling of alternative stories?
Texts and wider references will be circulated a week before the workshop.
