Body Sessions

BODY SESSIONS is an initiative providing embodied/movement classes for the community of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie & Sandberg Instituut. We believe that practices that centre moving/feeling can provide invaluable tools for artists and students that work with their bodies, as well as those working in completely other fields, and that higher education reasonably should not address individuals only from the neck up.

SESSION #3 - dogwash /w Wenzhelini
Mon
13 Jan
2020

14:00-16:00 @ K29, BC building

Wenzhelini is a multidisciplinary artist born in 1999 in China. She currently remains in London as the resident performer of the nistche goth club Wraith and the Mandrake Hotel. Her performances and film work are driven by literalistic examinations of political trauma, poems and mythology, restricted female bodies, hair as excrescence and alternated realities.

The workshop aims to achieve a general understanding of renegotiating movements through deconstructions and disruptions. Short texts will be read out before each series of movements are presented. The attendees will be taught to alienate the coherence of movements. By the end of the workshop, the attendees are expected to become familiar with certain Wenzhelinian techniques, e.g. snaking and deconstructions, and learn about refining excessive unintentional movements.
