aux) is an initiative funded by the Extra Intra Curricular Programme and run by students and alumni of Sandberg Institute and Rietveld Academie. The aim is to collectively question the contemporary domination of image over sound and to intervene with vision-dependent frames of making and knowing. The platform will offer a program that covers a spectrum of perspectives addressing sonic experiences and listening as everyday practices.

Aux events during fall semester 2022:
We want to invite you to participate in the next aux) session: a field recording workshop led by sound artist and composer Mint Park. The workshop will take place on the 28th and 29th of April, from 14 - 18:30 hrs on both days. Attendance to both sessions is required.
AUX will screen The Last Angel of History (1996), an influential cinematic essay that explores Afrofuturism as a metaphor for the displacement of black culture and the relationships between Pan-African culture, science fiction, intergalactic travel, techno music and rapidly progressing computer technology.
We invite you to be a part of the aux) sessions, a mix of listening parties, readings, screenings and sound-making events that reflect on listening and sonic culture at large.
Taking the ocean as a metaphor, aux) and Studium Generale invite you to a series of sonic events that navigate psycho-acoustic watery surroundings and the fluidity of electromagnetic noise.
Call for Participants: aux) invites students and alumni from Sandberg and Rietveld for a second event guided by Julia Eckhardt. During this session, participants will have the opportunity to share their own audios, scores, or performances with each other, and have a close conversation and feedback from Julia. The idea is to start nurturing a space together where we can collaborate, create and think around sound matters, with an open and experimental approach. Participants will be asked to bring a sound material no more than 5 minutes long. We strongly encourage applicants with any kind of experience and from diverse backgrounds to participate.
