Artists, designers and writers are invited to compile a selection of ten publications and give a lecture on this selection. During this lecture, they discuss their references and source material with the public, which creates a deeper understanding of an artist's practice. This lecture examines authorship and provides insight into research methods within an artistic practice. Within the library collection, subjective connections are made between subjects, so that the links are made between theory and practice.
The Library Talks is a series of lectures held at the Rietveld & Sandberg library. Each talk revolves around a selection of books made by the speaker, assembled out of the library’s current collection as well as newly purchased books for the occasion.

In this workshop, focused on experimenting with genre, we will approach and perhaps undo the conventional, the formulaic, and the cryptic toward subversive ends, with the goal of making new meaning through our array of feeling. The workshop is free and open to the public; we encourage participants to bring a writing utensil. Refreshments will be served.

The Library Talks with Textual Feelings (Matty Hemming and Rosie Haward), Tuesday October 17, 5pm
Dorine van Meel's practice is situated within and between the media of moving image, writing and installation. Through the use of diaristic and intimate analyses of personal observations and conversations, mixed with reflections on twitter feeds, news items and music videos, the work attempts to expose current structures of power, whilst at the same time considering modes of resistance.
Lotte Lara Schröder graduated from Graphic Design department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, and studied at Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem. She uses her graphic design skills to initiate projects in her artistic practice, resulting in sound installations, performances, and drawings. Her research revolves around ecological and natural phenomena such as volcanic energy and geomorphology, aiming to emphasise the more personal and poetic aspects of these predominantly scientific topics.

Paul Haworth writes and performs. Publications include ‘Letter to Robin Kinross’, co-written with Sam de Groot, and the trilogy ‘Silk Hankerchiefs’, ‘Alone, Desperate and Going Nowhere’ and ‘Jonny on a Chorizo’. Written in a mix of Cockney slang and Dickensian English, this trilogy records three years in the life of its London-based character Alex ‘Abs’ Brenchley, as he attempts to find love and start a club night.
Paul and Sam have made an album, ‘Illegal Emotions’, and he is in Amsterdam to record a new song. The in-progress-and-under-construction version of his latest novel, ‘Dramatic Society’, can be followed on his website homelovin.co.uk and he is currently developing a play, ‘Guide Me O Thou Great Redeemer’, that premieres in May at Camden People’s Theatre, London.
Melanie Bonajo examines the paradoxes inherent to ideas of comfort. Through her videos, performances, photographs and installations, Bonajo studies subjects related to how technological advances and commodity-based pleasures increase feelings of alienation, removing a sense of belonging in an individual. Captivated by concepts of the divine, she explores the spiritual emptiness of her generation, examines peoples’ shifting relationship with nature and tries to understand existential questions by reflecting on our domestic situation, ideas around classification, concepts of home, gender and attitudes towards value.

Starting at 5:00 PM. The discussion About Abstraction is organised in the context of the exhibition JAZZ, on display in the vitrines of the library and arranged by Ben Zegers. Visual artists WJM Kok and Ben Zegers will discuss the influence of Henri Matisse's work on the construction of ideas about abstraction, and other sources that have informed their own work.
David Senior, Bibliographer at the Museum of Modern Art Library in New York, will discuss a history of artists' publications in the 20th and 21st centuries. There will be a few different stories about how artists and designers have used their little publications as containers for new ideas, creating lively and weird spaces to communicate work and archive art actions. Most examples will come from the collection of books that he works with at MoMA and several recent exhibitions he has organized of artists' books and ephemera.
David Senior is Bibliographer at the MoMA, New York. He is the curator of exhibitions at the MoMA library such as 'Access to Tools: Publications from the Whole Earth Catalog' and 'Please Come to the Show' and his writing has been published in Dot Dot Dot, Bulletins of the Serving Library, Frieze and other publications.

Sophie Soobramanien is a British-Mauritian artist working in Amsterdam across video, installation, performance, and writing. She is led by a desire to reimagine personal and collective subjectivities that are corroded by imperial, hyper-capitalist, and white supremacist logics. In tracing dogmatic and systemic lineages, she wants to expose these racial and colonial technologies to the same process of corrosion that keeps the marginalised isolated and self-surveilling in the trappings of “personal responsibility”. Within this violent system, she sees her many social and economic privileges as access points to annotate and deconstruct these propaganda machines. Tools/tactics used but not limited to; citing, collaborating, relational, unlearning, humility, changing form, playing near, negotiating/resisting not refusing, ambivalence, getting inside and pushing outwards and rubbing up against, conversations.
